To all the heroic canines who served their country following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and who continue to serve whenever and wherever they are needed.

The images of destruction and the feelings of loss that accompany the mention of September 11th are ever-present in our national consciousness. Often forgotten, however, are the images of recovery and the stories of hope that capture the resilience and transcendence of the American people.

This special commemorative edition is being officially released for the tenth anniversary of 9/11 edition features over 100 new pages, including 150 new color photographs. It also presents brand-new chapters on military working dogs in Iraq and Afghanistan, the therapy dogs who worked Ground Zero, the SDF’s new National Training Center and post-9/11 rescue missions at home and abroad. A special section, written by 9/11 SAR handlers in honor of their canine partners, reinforces what the Book0of-the-Month-Club warned in its review of the first edition: “…this book is guaranteed to choke you up.”

As with the first edition, a portion of the proceeds of this new edition will help further the SDF’s vital work in protecting and preserving our nation through the training and deployment of search and rescue dogs.

Weaving together first-hand anecdotes, accurate historical information, and evocative photography, Dog Heroes of September 11th pays tribute to the unsung heroes of search and rescue that will capture the hearts of readers everywhere.
